Privacy Policy — BuildCode
Effective date: September 3, 2026
BuildCode ("the App", "we", "us") is developed by ARXA Technologies ("the Developer"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. BuildCode is a reference tool for BC Building Code construction professionals and homeowners; it is not an official government publication and does not perform automated compliance inspections.
1. Information We Collect
a. Account information. Creating a BuildCode account is required to use the App. You may sign up with an email address and password, or via Google or Apple sign-in. If you use Google or Apple sign-in, we receive the name and email address your provider shares with us. Account credentials and sessions are managed by our backend provider, Supabase, Inc.
b. Content you submit to "Ask BuildCode". The App includes an optional feature that lets you type a question and, if you choose, attach a photo to help identify the relevant Building Code topic. That question text and photo are sent securely to our backend and forwarded, on a one-time basis, to our AI provider (OpenAI) for classification only. We configure this request so the image and question are not retained by OpenAI for training or reuse, and our own backend does not store, log, or retain the photo or question text after the classification result is returned. This feature is explicitly not an automated compliance inspection — it only suggests a relevant code topic.
c. Information stored only on your device. Your onboarding preferences, selected municipality/jurisdiction, unit preference (metric/imperial), bookmarked code rules, and any project notes you create are stored locally on your device only. This information is never transmitted to us, to Supabase, or to any third party. You can erase it at any time using "Reset local app data" in Settings, or by uninstalling the App.
d. Information we do not collect. BuildCode does not use analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs, and does not track your location or device identifiers for advertising purposes.
2. How We Use Information
To create and secure your account, and to authenticate you when you sign in.
To operate the "Ask BuildCode" topic-classification feature, as described above.
To respond to support requests you send us, including account or data deletion requests.
To maintain the security, integrity, and reliability of the App (for example, temporary rate-limiting to prevent abuse of the classification feature; this rate-limit data is not persisted beyond a 60-second window).
3. Third-Party Service Providers
We rely on the following service providers to operate BuildCode. Each processes data only as necessary to provide their service to us, and is bound by their own privacy and security commitments:
- Supabase, Inc. — authentication, account/session management, and backend hosting for the classification feature.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising or marketing purposes.
4. Data Retention
- Account information (email, authentication identifiers) is retained for as long as your account remains active, and deleted upon a verified deletion request (see Section 6).
- "Ask BuildCode" question text and photos are not retained after a classification result is returned.
- Locally stored preferences, saved rules, and project notes persist on your device until you clear them or uninstall the App.
5. Data Security
Data in transit between the App and our backend is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Account authentication is handled by Supabase, which stores passwords using industry-standard hashing. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your Rights and Choices, Including Account Deletion
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account and associated account data at any time by contacting us at the email address in Section 9. We will verify your request and complete deletion of your account and authentication data within 30 days.
Note: BuildCode does not currently offer in-app self-service account deletion; deletion requests are handled manually by the Developer via the contact method below. Locally stored preferences and project notes can be erased immediately and independently at any time using "Reset local app data" in Settings, or by uninstalling the App.
7. Children's Privacy
BuildCode is intended for construction professionals, tradespeople, designers, and homeowners, and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your region). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. International Data Transfers
Our service providers (Supabase and OpenAI) may process data on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. By using the App, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in such locations.
